Baby Aspirin: Why You Need It

Why Do You Need Baby Aspirin

Aspirin is often recommened by doctors to patients who have had a heart attack or prone to heart attacks. Aspirin helps prevent you blood from clotting allowing more blood to enter your heart and arteries. Typically when a human has bleeding or a wound the bloods platelets will begin to form a wall around the wound to prevent excess bleeding. While this is great to prevent further loss of blood it can also work against the body when this happens around the blood vessels to your heart.

Vessels channeling to your heart can get clogged with fatty deposits. These fat deposits can burst or damage linings of the vessels which will cause the blood to clot further clogging the vessels creating a choke on the blood supply. When taking aspirin at the first signs of a heart attack can help null the effects of clotting.

Should you take aspirin daily?

Adults from the ages of 50-69 who are at a high risk for heart attacks should consider talking with their doctor about taking daily aspirin. Many adults should take precaution who have diabetes, bypass surgeries, high blood pressure, or are continous smokers. These adults should take preventative actions for their heart health before its to late.

Taking daily aspirin is not recommended for those who are healthy and do not have known heart conditions. Taking aspirin comes with minor side effects such as increased risk of bleeding and bruising. Aspirin can also cause irritations in the stomach lining and cause gastrointestinal bleeding.

Signs of a Heart Attack

The main symptom of a heart attack is a squeezing and tight sensation in the middle of the chest which can travel up to the jaw and shoulders. Along with the pain you might find yourself sweaty and or the feeling of passing out. If you find these symptoms it is important to call 911 immediately. After calling for help it is beneficial to take an aspirin to help prevent more clotting and increase blood circulation. It is recommended to chew the aspirin during this event as it will break down and enter the blood stream faster.

If you believe you are at risk for heart attacks it might be a smart option to begin carrying aspirin with you during your daily activities for preventative measures. Before taking aspirin daily it is recommended to speak with your doctor to make sure you are not at risks due to other circumstances.
